Rock Springs is a common place name throughout the USA. Ours is a small town in central Arizona. Though no railroad runs through the location, it is easy to imagine a case being made to build a bridge route linking the Santa Fe at Flagstaff with the Southern Pacific at Phoenix.
We have attempted to create, in miniature, a typical south western township as it would have appeared in the late 1970s. you should imagine that trains run southbound through the mountains, where tunnels abound, crossing the Agua Fria River or, alternatively northbound, under Interstate 17 and across the dry wash to arrive at the Rock Springs depot.
In addition to the freight house, boxcars are unloaded with items for local delivery and loaded with local goods to be despatches nationwide. You will also see a tank farm where fuel oils and propane would be received for local delivery, a packer that would despatch locally grown fruit and vegetables in refrigerator cars. There are two further railroad related sites, the first one being the depot, that not only deals with passengers and their baggage but also there is the administrative centre for freight traffic. The second one is the Maintenance of Way spur and depot where the track crews store equipment used to maintain the right of way.
