The layout is based on the practices of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, circa 1900-1910 and the title name is the phonetic spelling of the initials of the company and is intended to be an image of a small township or village in West Yorkshire.
All the locos are kit built. The Radial Tanks, the class 26 0-6-0 tender loco and the Railmotor were produced by Keith Dales of Hull and are now available from other manufacturers. The 'Rapid' shunter is a much altered Leinster Models product with the 'Pug' being a triplicate model by the late Charles Taylor of Cornwall.
Wagons and vans are a mixture of kits by Slaters, 3H and scratch built. The 'Parliamentary' coaches are scratch built in plasticard being designed by Charles Fay in the late 1800s. Track work is Peco with points hand built on copper clad sleepers and operated by H&M point motors. Buildings are plywood formers and covered in plasticard. The station is a model of Cleckheaton and the goods shed is at Liversedge while the Weighbridge House was common to several stations, this one being at Meltham.
The L&Y Society provided information used in building this layout with discussions with members and the extensive range of magazines and the booklets they publish.
