Dalry Road

Steven Thompson, Derby

Scale: 7mm Gauge: 32mm/O

The layout depicts a busy freight yard that is located just off the approaches to Edinburgh Princes Street station and is one of the many smaller yards that feed into the mammoth Millerhill complex and the Waverly Route. Even though there was a Dairy Road located as described, it bore no resemblance to the scene shown by the model. It is set in the period of 1965-1970 and is a 'modern image' layout in that it is operated by diesels, albeit in green livery. The locomotives are mainly the smaller Bo-Bo classes, such as classes 17, 24, 25 and 26. Rolling stock is entirely non-passenger and represents the varied freight stock that operated in this era. Shunting is performed by the trusty 08.

It has been designed for two person operation. One operator controls the fiddle yard, reception/departure sidings an the loco depot, whilst the other operator controls the shunting yard which should ensure that trains will be moving 'most' of the time.

Plain trackwork is C&L with points using their components. Point operation is by Fulgurex or Lemaco slow action motors with all wiring taken back to the central control panel and controllers are handheld Gaugemaster. The buildings are all scratch built from either plastic sheet or card.
