Sowood came into being after browsing through a copy of the Gauge O Guild's book of small layout plans and finding a suitable sized track plan. The plan was modified slightly to accomodate a possible future extension.

The baseboards are built from 9mm ply in an egg crate style with 9mm ply track base and 4mm ply backscene located by 2"x1" verticals which also support the lighting pelmet.

The track plan, with all sleeper positions, was drawn using a CAD package, then printed off and stuck onto the baseboard to assist in the correct positioning of the track work which is all C&L Finescale individual compenents with hand build point work.

Locos and rolling stock are portrayed from the mid 1950s with steam and diesels in evidence which are all controlled by hand held controllers by either Modelex or Gaugemaster.
