East Yorkshire had classic examples of double track country lines serving market towns and small villages which connected with important towns and cities. York and Selby had such lines meeting at Market Weighton and then onwards to Hull via Beverly and to Driffield. Due to increased traffic which poured through Market Weighton, the NER considered building a spur northwards from the Beverley line to the Hull and Scarborough line to ease the pressure on the steeply graded Driffield line. Had this been built it would have passed by Etton. The layout typifies the 1960s practice and is single track 'end to end' fiddle yard to a through station.
Peco Streamline track and medium radius electro frog points which are operated by the wire in the tube method. Granite ballast was carefully laid, wetted and prayed with diluted PVA a couple of times. A great deal of time was spent cleaning off unwanted granite as any defects would show up later when painted.
Five electric circuits are employed which are controlled by a panel of three-way switches with a panel mounted controller at the station end and a walk-about controller at the other.
