East Lynn

Trevor Nunn, Witney

Scale: 1:64 Gauge 19mm/S

This is an imaginary small town and seaport situated in northwest Norfolk served by the Great Eastern Railway. Principal trains head south from East Lynn departing over the single line to London. A branch heads eastwards across the country, over which the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway has running powers.

The scene is set in 1903 when the railways were the principal means of transport. Goods traffic is mainly coal with general merchandise coming in, with agricultural produce and livestock going out. In addition, the port handles fish and imported timber which are also carried by the railway. There is a large granary with a private siding where the wagons are chain shunted.

Modelling in S scale requires scratch building as there are relatively few kits and parts available. It is, however, a very satisfying scale to work in and well worth that extra bit of effort with the S Scale Model Railway Society providing parts and support in the form of meetings and a bi-monthly newsletter.
