Coverham (Norborough Junction)

Don Brears and friends (WRMS)

Scale: 4 mm Gauge 18.2 mm/EM

This layout, although not based on any particular station, is meant to depict a Midland LNWR & North Eastern joint line in the 1930s. It is located in the North Yorkshire Dales beyond Grassington and Kettlewell though Coverdale. Coverham (Norborough Junction) is where a branch joined for Leyburn. The line then took a northerly course through Middleham, Spennithorne and Bellerby towards the industrial area of Teesside. The NER viewed these proceedings with some trepidation and in order to forestall this intrusion into their domain they decided to extend southwards to meet the invaders.

Beginning by extending their Forcett mineral branch, they built a line through Ravensworth, Whaston towards the new line coming north and met with an end on junction at Skelton Marske, thus enabling through running from Darlington to Coverham and Skipton.

Built as a club layout, it is now in private ownership and has received many modifications in this guise. Rolling stock is from RTR modified kits and scratch built, including several items from my colleague, Malcolm Crawley, to whom I am most indebted for his assistance.
