Summer Hill is an attempt to portray a Western Region branch in a different setting from the usual Western (GWR) image, of a quiet rural backwater, into something more akin to the urban grime of a large city. The layout is based on the Wombourn branch in the West Midlands and pre-supposes that the line was kept open as far as Summer Hill because of the post-war housing boom and provides a regular passenger service to Wolverhampton and there onto Birmingham.
Scenery is by various tried and trusted techniques with the baseboards being the standard 2" by 1" stripwood frames and Sundeals tops. Trackwork is by Peco code 75, painted and ballasted with Tortoise point motors powering the points.
Locos are from the ready-to-run ranges of Hornby and Bachmann with rolling stock also being ready-to-run and kit built. All stock are fitted with Kadee couplings to give that 'hands off' operation.
