January 25th:  Mr Thomas Normington of Wakefield
The life of a very interesting character who worked for the L&Y railway. Presented by Graham Hardy of the Dewsbury Historical Society, and the L&Y and LNWR Societies.

February 2010

February 8th:  Something Completely Different!
This talk was sadly postponed last year, but it will be worth the wait. You’ll kick yourself if you miss it!
In a break from tradition, this evening will be totally different to anything we’ve ever had before. The 87-year-old gentleman giving the talk has a fascinating story to tell and comes highly recommended. I can’t wait!

A welcome annual return to our clubrooms of old favourites Brian Kilner and the rest of the Gricers’ gang who will update us on what they have been up to in the past year.

Darren Hedges presents the talk.

March 22nd:  Railways From The Top of North to The Bottom of South America.
Ian Smith of the Middleton and Worth Valley railway societies will present a talk on this interesting topic, including the most southerly railway in America.

April 5th:  Easter Monday Bank Holiday – modelling evening for die-hard members

April 12th:  Around The Regions Part 2
Peter Barsby gave us part one in October 2008 and returns with the second part of his nostalgic tour of our railways. Peter is a fireman on the NYMR and Bolton Abbey railway and is currently training to be a driver.

May 3rd:  May Day Bank Holiday – modelling evening for die-hard members

May 10th:  A Stationmaster’s Tales
Gerald Egan a local historian and former Leeds station master who also controlled over 50 of the surrounding local stations will tell us about his life on the railways.

May 17th:  Modelling evening

May 24th:  Return to Australia
Narrow gauge workings in Australia’s sugar plantations. Although mainly diesel, there will be some steam. Presented by Mike Swift.

May 31st:  Spring Bank Holiday – modelling evening for die-hard members

June 2010

June 7th:  A Pilot’s Life
Our resident Wing Commander, Dave Tanner will tell us about his experiences of being a pilot in modern theatres of war, including the Middle East.

June 14th:  Modelling evening

June 21st:  All Your Own Evening
Members will tell the rest of the Society what they have been modelling or their other railway-related pursuits.
Please note: a maximum 10 minute time slot will be allocated to each speaker, due to the popularity of this event.
